Oh boy, a lot has happened since I last posted. Four months doesn’t seem like a lot of time but it really is.

These months have been marked with an odd cycle of good followed by bad followed by determination.

When I last left you, I had a publishing deal for DAWN OF THE BETRAYERS and, while I haven’t yet talked about this, I was on the cusp of venturing towards the purchase of a home… a huge milestone for someone who has only ever lived with family or in apartments.

My partner and I found a house. We put in an offer and started the arduous process of buying a home. While this happened, I received the first round of edits from my publisher and my book cover got final approval. All was looking up!

In a couple week period we had a series of hits. First we lost the house. Not because of anything we did… we were a couple of weeks from closing, only to find out that the seller never had a legal right to put the house on the market. We already spent a good chunk of money and time. We then had to extended the lease on our apartment which came with a higher monthly rate and start the process all over again.

Then I got an email from my publisher…

Due to financial issues, they were folding.

The rights to my novel reverted back to me.

I was crushed.

All the “goods things” turned to “bad things” in a few week period.

A younger version of myself would have completely fallen to pieces. I don’t even want to imagine the dark places my mind would have gone. Having two of my biggest life accomplishments wrenched from me took a toll on my psyche but I dealt with it and moved forward.

So, now we get the determination section of this post.

My partner and I turned our nights and weekends to house viewings. We saw more properties than I care to admit, but we have now found another house and are back in the buying process. If all goes well, we should be in by the end of the year.

I put a plan in place and I have begun the querying process for DAWN OF THE BETRAYERS again. So far, the responses have been positive and it is currently with a few publishers. That being said, I have back-up plans on top of back-up plans just in case.

And, my next bit of big news… I started a new book.

It is a musical sci-fi of sorts. It’s the first novel I’ve written that will definitely have playlists released at some point. The writing is coming along well, I hope to have the first draft finished by the end of the year (moving may slow that down but not by much).

I feel like this novel will be the culmination of all I’ve learned about writing over the last decade or so and a lifetime of studying music. Whether anyone reads it or not, I’m already exceedingly proud.

And, in honor of this announcement, I’ve decided that you’ll be the first to know the title!
